Outreach

In 2007, the High Country Women's Fund determined that it wanted to go beyond allocations to local agencies in its efforts to help local women and children. The Advisory Council saw the value and felt the need to connect to the women in a direct way, and community outreach became part of our mission.

POP ShoppeBecause the efforts of the Outreach attempt to fill the gaps in local agency funding, the various projects we undertake to support community families may shift from year to year. Here is a sampling of things we do or have done yearly:

  • POP Shoppe is our signature event and it is the only one in the community dedicated to Mother's Day. Outreach invites all participating agencies to send the women they help.
  • Share the Warmth is our annual coat drive, and it benefits homeless and needy families through Hospitality House and WAMY.
  • Angel Tree is a year-end event that allows our membership to share gifts to put under the tree that The Children's Council provides for teen moms and their children. Our gifts support the moms in the GED program for whom we fund childcare to allow them to participate.
  • Santa's Workshop is another Outreach effort that occurs when The Children's Council holds its Holiday Family Festival.
  • Summer empowerment programs--such as Believing Is Seeing and the New Opportunities School--are instrumental in moving women towards self-sufficiency.
